Lake Minnewaska was this incredibly beautiful mountain lake in the Catskill mountains of New York. I worked there from about 1976 to 1980 as a maintenance mechanic. I did everything from working on steam boilers to driving the snow plow in the winter.

The two hotels with about 220 rooms each, were victorian style hotels which were built in 1879. In 1978 the Cliff House burned to the ground. The privately owned area included over 10,000 acres of forest. The local taxes became too overwhelming, and in 1979 the hotels closed for good.

The area has since been taken over by eminent domain by the State of New York and is now a park. All traces of the hotels and its surrounds have been removed.

Trains are one of my passions. I have especially been intrigued by the local rail history in the San Francisco Bay Area.

One day on my way home I noticed that there was a flat and straight path to the left of the curving and climbing road I was traveling on. I didn't think much of that until about a year later I heard something about an old railroad siding not far from where I was driving and the picture to the left was taken. I became very interested and did lots of research, and uncovered a railroading marvel that few people in the area knew about. It turns out that this was one leg of the longest interurban railroad in the WORLD at the time it was built in 1911. Over 300 miles from San Francisco to Chico, CA.

Since that finding, I have become very interested in other rail lines in the Bay Area. The Key Route system, Southern Pacific, Western Pacific and more.

While purchasing a train video at an online store, I recognized the shopping cart system this company was using and I wrote a comment along with my order that the shopping cart wasn't configured properly, and that I'd be glad to fix it for them. The comment was ignored, and the video took several days before it shipped. I knew I could do better so I created my own train video e-commerce site.

It's been up for only a short time and I'm already doing well considering it takes months to show up on all the search engines. There's a lot more search engine optimization (SEO) left to do, but compared to what this other company had, and the lack of customer support, I suspect I will do pretty well.
